Synopsis: Shale oil development within the last decade has significantly altered the way of life and the socio-economic dynamics in western North Dakota communities, which used to be rural agriculturally dependent communities. This seminar is based on over four years of research on how oil development has changed and impacted quality of life in the communities in western North Dakota. The seminar will present information using both qualitative and quantitative approaches on the changes in quality of life as well as policy implications for community planning and development.
